Money: Iceland Repayment – 5th March 10

Iceland will go to the polls in a referendum tomorrow to decide how to repay the £3.4 billion owed to Britain and the Netherlands. Prospects for an economic recovery and billions of dollars in international aid money are at risk if there is a no vote. A rightwing thinktank says the full VAT should be charged on food, childrens’ clothes and gas and electricity to avoid having national insurance act as a tax on jobs. Finally, research from the trade body Industry Trust for IP Awareness found that only a quarter of 400 young people surveyed said they download illegally. The trust are launching a series of trailers in cinemas across the country today to try and persuade young people of the merits of paying for content.
