Toyota has recalled more than six million cars so far in the United States but its problems there appear to be growing. A federal grand jury wants to see documents on the company’s safety record which could lead to criminal charges as well as big civil lawsuits. Working mothers currently get six weeks of their maternity leave in the UK paid at 90% of their salary but last night a committee of the European Parliament voted in favour of forcing companies to give 20 weeks minimum maternity leave on full pay. Finally, the British government has put forward what it says is its “best and final offer” on terms for the Icelandic authorities to repay the UK the £2 billion it spent bailing out savers in the Internet bank Icesave.
